Hey Earthy, I'm not surprised that they wouldn't give you the overage. Their policy is not to allow overage. They have to catch it though; it's not your responsibility to point it out. They should have taken the $6.00 grill coupon. You should go to Publix.com and send an email to corporate. Their coupon policy is that they need manager approval on any internet coupon over $5.00 but it doesn't say that they won't take them. Just send a very nice email asking Publix why you were denied usage of the coupon. They will call or email you back and most times the district mgr. for that region will call you back and he will call the store and tell them to accept it. Just an FYI...

Earthy, another bit of advice. I try not to throw in too many moneymakers of the same kind (like 20 Gerbers or 6 Knox) or else it draws attention to you at the register. I just throw in a few for each visit. I also try to have one large transaction so that the overage coupons get lost with the rest of the coupons. It works for me. I also go to the store when it is really busy (on Sunday or Monday) so that they won't have time to scrutinize every coupon. I have done a few transactions with 10 Gerbers but I thought that was pushing it and was ready for the cashier to tell me I couldn't do it but they never did. I try not to do that too often (again, so as not to draw attention to myself). Just a thought...

Earthy, try doing the charcoal/meat deal at the self-checkout on a Sunday/Monday and scan the manufacturer coupons yourself and put them in the slot. Fold the paper coupons in half or after you've scanned them and insert them in the slot (this helps the reader to "feel" the coupon as it goes in). Just do the meat deal and nothing else so as not to draw attention to yourself and do the deal when it is busy. Give the flip for the charcoal to the guy at the register after you've scanned the other coupons. That should work. My hubby started using the self-checkout to avoid them having to call the manager over to get the "ok" to use the $6/1 coupon because it was just taking too long everytime he went.
